Exploring Taxes with Young Adults

In the words of Benjamin Franklin, “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.” This timeless quote resonated with the ambiance at Sophia High School on the 20th of October, 2023 when distinguished guests from the Directorate of Income Tax, in association with the Office of the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax - International Taxation, South Zone, and the Income Tax Department Karnataka & Goa, graced the school with their presence as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative. Their objective was to impart invaluable financial knowledge to the youth of our nation, and the event left an indelible mark on all who attended.

The guests of honour for the day were Mr. E S Nagendra Prasad IRS, the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax for International Taxation, South Zone, and Mr. Janardhan S IRS, Additional Commissioner of Income Tax - Transfer Pricing, Bengaluru. Their wealth of experience and dedication to the cause of tax awareness were truly commendable and served as an inspiration to the students and faculty present.

In the Duchesne Hall of Sophia High School, the event commenced at 1:00 PM with a warm welcome extended to our esteemed guests. The culmination of their efforts was symbolized in the presentation of three financial literacy games, which included board games and puzzles designed to enhance the understanding of tax and financial terms.

The students exhibited their enthusiasm for learning, asking insightful questions that demonstrated their eagerness to comprehend the intricacies of taxation. Mr. Nagendra Prasad and Mr. Janardhan S, in their characteristic patience and expertise, provided articulate responses to these queries and shared their profound knowledge about the world of taxation. Their engagement with the students was not only educational but also motivational.

Following this enlightening Q&A session, the students were presented with the financial literacy games and tax awareness materials, which they received with excitement and gratitude.
