A Visit to Lourdes Home Charitable Trust

“To care for those who once cared for us is one of the highest honors.”
– Tia Walker

On the 2nd of August, we, the students of Class 9A, visited Lourdes Home Charitable Trust, a home for destitute women. This visit was organized by our school as part of a community outreach programme to help us develop compassion and awareness.

We began with a short program which included heartfelt speeches in both English and Kannada, followed by a cheerful dance performance. The atmosphere became even livelier when some of the elderly women joined in and showed us their joyful moves, filling the room with smiles and laughter.

After the performances, we interacted with the residents and listened to their stories. Many of them had once been teachers and lecturers in subjects like economics, commerce, and psychology. They spoke several languages including Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, and Hindi. Some even shared that their children were unable to take care of them, which genuinely moved us and made us reflect on the value of compassion and awareness, especially towards the elderly in our lives.

As we soon waved goodbye to them, many of whom smiled and thanked us for coming, we promised to visit again next year, hoping to spend even more time with them. This visit left us with memories to cherish and reminded us of the joy a small act of kindness can bring — not just to others, but to ourselves as well. We would also like to thank our principal Sister Alpana for giving us this opportunity to go on this outreach.
