Three pioneering sisters of the Society of Sacred Mother, Mother Catherine Andersson, Mother Ivy Bourke and Mother Dorothy Bullen began the school under the name “Convent Of Sacred Heart” with 17 children.
1950
The school was recognized as a primary school by the Department of Public Instruction of the Mysore Government.
1952
Introduction of the middle school.
1953
The first Student Council was formed.
1954
The Duchesne building was constructed.
1957
Introduction of the high school. The name of the school was changed to Sophia High School. The school crest and motto “Truth and Universal Love” were chosen.
1958
The first batch of Sophia appeared for the ICSE examination. Six students appeared and Rowena Mathais stood first in the entire subcontinent.
1969
Introduction of nursery school.
1970
Sisters of Notre Dame took over the management of the school.
1991
Introduction of Interact Club and the Parent Teacher Association.
1999
Introduction of ISC (Plus Two) – new Biology lab, Computer lab, Library and administrative rooms were built along with an ISC wing.
2000
Inauguration of ISC(Plus two) and commencement of Class XI
2002
Graduation of the first batch of ISC – 51 Students.
2005
Formation of the Visitation Province with headquarters as Sophia High School.
