Daan Utsav 2020

DAAN UTSAV

“A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees.” -Amelia Earhart. To commemorate UN World Food Day (October 16) and World Poverty Eradication Day (October 17) Sophia High School organizes its annual food donation drive. This year keeping the Covid restrictions in mind the annual food collection was done with a difference.Parents were requested to send their voluntary food donations of rice, wheat flour, dals [lentils] jaggery, onions and potatoes for the crisis-affected in our society, using online delivery platforms like Big Basket, Amazon etc. or use the other option of paying into the Sophia Interact Account. The collection dates were 26th September to 1st October.

We witnessed the largesse of the Sophia student-parent &benefactors community who responded to the appeal in an overwhelmingand  abundant way. This has facilitated the distribution of food to various underprivileged centres, pourakarmikas and daily wagers way beyond the vision of Sophia Interact Club  across Bangalore during this pandemic through the month of October. Items were delivered and received at the main gate and sorted by few staff members and the convent sisters and packaged for delivery to recipients.

A few of them arrived at the campus following all required precautions to receive the food donations while the delivery was made at their doorstep to those who couldn’t arrange for any means of transport. The blessings of God was evident via the blessings of the beneficiaries as the entire operation was conducted smoothly without any hiccups. Huge credit should also be granted to the meticulous planning of the school heads.
