World Environment Day, June 5th, 2025 with the theme #BeatPlasticPollution
was commemorated at Sophia High School with a series of engaging activities
designed to foster environmental awareness and promote sustainable behavior
among students.
The day began with a tree planting ceremony, where Class 9 EVS students
planted saplings in the school garden. Various activities were conducted,
focusing on awareness to reduce plastic usage and to replace plastic with eco-
friendly products.
ISC students of the Environmental Science department organized a sale of hand-
made eco-friendly cards and bookmarks showcasing their creativity and
understanding of environmental protection to highlight the importance of
protecting our environment and the urgent need for conservation efforts.
Also, the concept of "REUSE" was driven among students in the campus by
selling old storybooks. The money collected from the sales drive was used to
create a green space in the school premises, using up cycled planters by the
ISC EVS students to enhance the school's landscape in order to support
biodiversity, promoting ecological awareness and environmental stewardship.
The main aim of this initiative was to engage the students to connect with
nature to boost self-esteem and confidence and promote positive self-
perception among students. The green spaces provide opportunities for outdoor
learning experiences, such as science investigations, nature walks and
gardening projects.
A skit was also performed by ISC EVS students to effectively communicate
the importance of environmental protection, to spread awareness about plastic
pollution and inspire others to become eco-conscious citizens.
The day concluded with all students taking a pledge to conserve natural
resources, reduce waste and adopt eco-friendly habits instead of using plastic
in their daily lives. This commitment was further solidified through a Pledge
signing drive, signifying a serious intention to act upon it.
Our Principal, Sr. Alpana, led this drive to inspire staff and students to make
similar commitments and contribute to a larger movement to emphasize the
importance of taking care of our planet, reinforcing our school's commitment to
sustainability.
The World Environment Day celebration at Sophia High School was a
resounding success, fostering a sense of environmental responsibility among
students and reinforcing the school's commitment to sustainability. The event
served as a reminder of the importance of protecting our planet and inspired
students to become active participants in conservation efforts.
