On 26th July 2024, NCC Cadets of Sophia High School observed Kargil Vijay
Diwas through a series of reflective and creative activities designed to honor
the bravery and sacrifice of soldiers from the Kargil War. The day began with
an essay writing centered on the theme “The Legacy of Kargil: Courage and
Sacrifice,” where cadets expressed their thoughts on the profound significance
of the conflict and the valor of those who fought. This was followed by a poetry
session, in which cadets crafted poems dedicated to the fallen soldiers, using
verse to convey their deep respect and admiration.
The cadets then participated in a poster-making activity, creating vibrant
displays that celebrated themes of patriotism and bravery, including depictions
of key moments from the war and slogans such as “Victory to Our
Bravehearts.” Following this, they watched a documentary that offered a
detailed account of the Kargil conflict, featuring personal stories from veterans
and archival footage. The documentary viewing was followed by a discussion
that allowed cadets to reflect on the emotional and historical impact of the war.
The observance also included a candle lighting ceremony, where cadets lit
candles in tribute to the soldiers. During this solemn moment, they
pronounced the names of the fallen soldiers, ensuring that each individual's
sacrifice was recognized and remembered. The ceremony was marked by
deep reverence and reflection, as the cadets paid homage to those who gave
their lives for the nation. With the support of the school principal Sr. Alpana
and constant presence of T/O Smitha Huddar, the day concluded with a two-
minute silence to honor the fallen soldiers, providing a moment for deep
contemplation and remembrance. Through these activities, the cadets not only
commemorated the bravery and sacrifice of the soldiers but also reinforced
their own sense of national pride and understanding of the values of courage
and unity.
