Sophia Model United Nations 2025

The sixteenth annual Sophia Model United Nations (SMUN) took place from August 7 through 9, 2025, at Sophia High School with over 330 delegates. For three days, students assumed the positions of diplomats and political leaders, debating current issues and writing solutions in a cooperative atmosphere.

This year's SMUN was a historic edition as it saw the first-ever keynote address in the conference, presented during the opening ceremony by Ms. Sigrun Habermann, Chief of the Library and Archives at the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG). The keynote addressed the value of dialogue and cooperation in international relations and urged the delegates to envision themselves as proactive actors toward forging the future. The address signaled a new era for SMUN, connecting the school conference to the broader work of the global community.

Delegates proceeded to take part in a wide range of committees, from the United Nations Security Council to the Human Rights Council, the All India Political Party Meet, and the all new hectic S.H.I.E.L.D committee. Every session challenged students to research attentively, articulate their ideas with eloquence, and reconcile with others, skills which are at the core of Model UN.

Behind this well-planned conference was a dedicated group of student and faculty leaders. Faculty coordinators Ms. Lali Purkayastha Ms. Arnavaz Kapadia, Ms. Sireesha, and Mr. Titto C led the process with vision and experience, while student coordinators Trisha Lynnette Nathan and KN Sirisha represented the student bodys commitment to making the event happen.

Together, the efforts ensured that SMUN 2025 was not only well-planned, but also student-led, a reflection of the conference's philosophy of empowering youth to take initiative. With its inaugural keynote speech and increased global ties, SMUN 2025 was a milestone edition that not only provided students with the opportunity to learn about international problems, but even to witness the burden of leadership and collaboration firsthand.
