Sophia Health & Hygiene Project-1

(World Toilet Day- November 19, 2020)

2.5 billion of the world’s population have no access to toilets. Access to sanitized existing toilets remains an elusive dream for them although it is of crucial importance. Well maintained toilets, combined with clean water and good hygiene, form a strong defense against COVID19 and future disease outbreaks. The students of Class 11, Sophia High School, who volunteer annually for the Aloysia Project which nurtures around 35-50 orphans from Angels Orphanage, Shivajinagar, Bangalore decided to do something different owing to the disruptive pandemic school year during which neither group has been able to keep in contact. They endeavored to keep the inmates safe and healthy by facilitating the supply of personal and general hygiene products. Principal Sr. Alpana, connected with the inmates of the Aloysia Home over zoom where the children were happy to speak to each other. On 21/11/20, the 11th graders donated items like tooth brushes, toothpastes, combs, hair oils, bathing and detergent soaps, shampoos, cold creams and talcum powder. With the monetary contributions, diapers, toilet sanitation & bathroom cleaning products were procured. These items were sorted out and carefully and lovingly packed to be delivered to the home.
