On August 1st, the students of Class 9D gathered at 11:00 a.m. in their school for their class outreach programme. The mood was a mix of mild grumbling and eager anticipation. Our destination was the Lourdes Home Charitable Trust on Bannerghatta Road, an old age home for destitute women.
Students quickly loaded their donation boxes onto the bus and took seats next to their friends. The cabin buzzed with rapid discussions about what the afternoon might hold. Before departure, our teachers briefed us on proper conduct and led us in a short prayer. With that, we set off for what promised to be an enriching and insightful experience. The bus ride was lively, packed with music, dancing, and a few necessary warnings from our teachers to quiet down.
When we arrived, we walked through an inviting entrance passing by the ducks and dogs of the campus, eventually reaching the ladies' residence. We began the visit with a small, pre-planned cultural programme. After introducing our school, we performed a melodious hymn, followed by a beautiful Kannada musical medley and a lively English pop medley. We concluded the entertainment with an energetic dance performance to popular Bollywood songs. Our hosts welcomed us graciously, listening intently and cheering along with the performances. Following the stage program, we broke off into smaller groups to interact personally with the residents. Everyone found ways to communicate, share stories, and get to know one another through different languages. The elders shared valuable life lessons and advice that will undoubtedly guide us in the future.
Though the visit was short, both the students and the residents were incredibly grateful for the time spent together. The journey back to school was filled with an exciting buzz as we reflected on the day's events. Ultimately, it was a deeply moving experience that taught us the true value of connection and empathy.
