"The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others."
— Mahatma Gandhi
Indeed, community service is one of the most giving and rewarding of experiences, and as the students of class XII ’A’, we were given the amazing opportunity to visit and contribute to Dr. B. Ramana Rao’s Village Clinic, Nelamangala, on the 2nd of August, 2026.
Following a lively felicitation of Dr. Rao and Medical Co-ordinator Ms. Shobha by Sr. Alpana and Sr. Tanuja, the class was split up into teams and efficiently dispatched to help out in the various functions of the clinic, made to serve the residents of a nearby village, that number nearly to a thousand. At the clinic, students were guided on how to assist in different medical assessments of the patients, like taking their blood pressure, carrying out sugar tests, and preparing syringes while also handing out the required medicines and meals. It was an enlightening experience, refreshed by chilled drinks of coconut water from the clinic’s very own produce. Afterwards, the students also got to contribute to the environment by helping clean up a nearby forest, followed by an exciting truck ride around the village and through a beautiful garden.
After a successful day of helping around the clinic, Sr. Priscilla and the Sisters of Notre Dame thanked Dr. Rao and Ms. Shobha for their indispensable social service in a brief closing ceremony, after which everyone was shown to a delicious lunch. Our time at the Village Clinic was enjoyable and fulfilling as much as it was eye-opening, and instilled in us a sense of selfless charity that we shall carry throughout our lives.
