On August 31, 2024, Sophia High School, in collaboration with 8 Kar BN NCC,
successfully conducted a tree plantation drive at Tree Park, Machohalli, Magadi
Road, Bangalore, under the theme “One Cadet, One Tree.” The event began
with the school group, comprising 36 NCC cadets, Associate NCC Officer T/O
Smitha S H, and teacher Ms. Kavitha, departing from the school at 8:00 a.m. We
arrived at Tree Park at 9:00 a.m., where the day’s activities commenced with the
planting of 37 trees. The species planted included Nagalingapushpa, Banyan
Tree (Alad Mara), Mahogany (Timber), Jamun, Seeta Ashoka, Honge Mara, and
Jackfruit, each chosen for their ecological and environmental benefits. Following
the tree planting, the participants enjoyed a 1½ hours educational walk through
the park. This walk provided valuable insights into the various tree species and
their roles in the ecosystem, enhancing the cadets' understanding and
appreciation of nature. After a well-deserved lunch, the group departed from the
park at 1:00 p.m. and returned to school by 2:00 p.m. The event was a notable
success, demonstrating a strong commitment to environmental conservation and
providing an enriching educational experience for the students. It highlighted the
important role that educational institutions and their partnerships can play in
fostering ecological awareness and community involvement.
