The bus set off from Sophias at 9:20 a.m., following a heartfelt prayer by Ms.
Martins. The students of Class 5A along with their teachers
Ms. Martins and Ms. Arathi looked on as the driver expertly navigated the
route to St. Mary's Orphanage in Maria Niketan, St. Thomas Town, arriving
swiftly and on schedule.
Upon arrival, the orphanage children warmly greeted us and eagerly helped
unload the groceries and gifts we had brought as part of the Daan Utsav
offering. After a quick group photo on the steps, we were welcomed inside for
some light refreshments.
The girls then took the stage, performing two poignant skits—one
emphasizing the importance of giving second chances, and another
celebrating the power of friendship. Their lively dances followed, mesmerizing
the 100 boys at the orphanage, who watched in awe.
As the Christmas season approaches and Daan Utsav is celebrated, it was a
perfect opportunity to instill the values of kindness, sharing, and charity in our
students. It was especially heartening to see how much effort the boys had put
into keeping their home clean and organized. The youngest child at the
orphanage was around 10 years old, while the oldest were in their teens.
The Orphanage graciously offered us a spread of snacks—cakes, chips, and
fruit juice— showing us how generous they can be even in their hour of need.
This added a sweet touch to the meaningful day we shared together.
