On the morning of 5th October 2024, our class, 8C headed for our annual
outreach programme to the RTC hostel in St. Joseph girls high school
premises. Our principal, Sr. Alpana had provided us with a variety of
provisions and groceries to give to the orphanage. After our prayers, we
headed towards the orphanage by bus.
On arrival, we were welcomed by the heart-warming greetings of the students
there. Sr. Annu escorted our class to a gathering of 85 students who were
orphans present from the age group of 6-16 years, with their enigmatic and
cheerful smiles. After exchanging salutations and becoming familiar with us
they felt free to express themselves by singing and speaking of how their life
at the hostel is. Sr. Annu made us aware on how to help such under privileged
children.
We then distributed snacks and stationary to them which they accepted with
expressions of joy. We were also allowed to take glimpses of their dorm rooms
which were extremely neat and clean despite them having to be completely
independent which also inspired us to follow their footsteps in being hygienic
and independent. Sr. Annu who was in charge of the hostel extended her
gratitude to our principal Sr. Alpana for the noble cause.
We then clicked a few photographs for memories and headed back to the bus
to return whereas the children went to their classes to continue their classes
as per their normal schedules. While heading back we had new found
knowledge and realization on how lucky we all are to be living such blessed
lives. We also bear gratitude in our hearts towards, Sr. Alpana for providing
such an enlightening opportunity to see and understand the world, and our
teachers Mrs. Latha and Mrs. Neha for safely guiding us throughout the event.
