Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?
~ Martin Luther King, Jr
Outreach programs play a vital role in instilling a sense of compassion and
empathy in students. These programs not only help the students to understand
the hardships faced by the less fortunate but also, makes them realize the need
to help others and give back to the society.
On the 30th of November, we, the students of class 10 A, accompanied by our
teachers Ms Chetana R. K. and Mr Tito Paul, visited an orphanage, Samuha
Foundation, as part of our annual outreach program. We took along with us some
of the essentials required by the children there like rice, wheat and ragi flour,
biscuits, chocolates etc. sponsored by the school and the students.
Happiness does not result from what we get, but from what we give. It was a
pleasure to see the excitement of the children when they received the gifts that
we had got for them. We had planned a short entertainment program which
included dances and songs on some of their favourite melodies. In a flash, they
too joined in and gave us an impressive dance performance, followed by a
medley of vernacular songs which was truly a delight to hear.
We ended the day by taking a group picture with the children there and returned
back home with a contented heart, satisfied with the smiles that we had gotten on
those little faces. It filled us with utmost gratitude for even the smallest of
blessings that we have, which we most often take for granted, and left a lasting
impact on all of us. We are extremely thankful to Sr. Alpana and our dear
teachers for having given us this indispensable experience.
