Nirmala Shishu Bhavan, Lingarajapuram, an orphanage run by the
Missionaries of Charity founded by Mother Teresa herself, is home to 36
children who are lovingly cared for by 7 sisters and a few devoted helpers.
And it was here that we, class X ‘B’, spent our Saturday morning on 2nd
August, 2025 as part of our Outreach. We were warmly welcomed by Sister
Stephen, who had recently returned from 43 years of service in South Africa,
and Sister Sajosna, the Provincial Sister.
During our time there, we met Jennifer, Ananya, Nayana, and Saanvi
and so many more children, each one full of life and joy despite their
circumstances. We sang a medley of songs for them and spent the rest of the
time playing games, with ‘Ring a Ring o’ Roses’ being their clear favourite,
and we found ourselves playing it over and over again. It was a heart-warming
experience, one that opened our eyes to the immense compassion and
selfless service of the sisters. Their dedication to these children left a lasting
impression on all of us.
