"Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a
listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring – all of which
have the potential to turn a life around."
- Leo Buscaglia
As the 2024 season was coming to an end, excitement filled the air as most
classes prepared for their Outreach Programme. This year our class was to
visit a shelter home called "Missionaries of Charity".
And on December 1, 2024, the students of class 10 C embarked on a
heartwarming outreach experience that left a lasting impact on all of us.
The day kicked off early in the morning as we gathered for one last practice of
our performance. Even though we had rehearsed every day, we were
determined to ensure everything was perfect to create something special for
the residents. The buzz in the air reflected our excitement to brighten their day
and bring smiles to their faces!
Upon arriving at the home, we were greeted with warmth that instantly put us
at ease. The friendly behaviour shown to us by everyone was welcoming.
Meeting the residents was uplifting as their genuine smiles and bright eyes
made our efforts feel fruitful.
We gave a lively dance performance, bringing joy and delight to the residents.
Our dance performance was vibrant and filled with energy, the highlight being
"Shava Shava," where everyone joined in, clapping, laughing, and dancing
together, creating a joyful and unforgettable experience.
We then sang a lovely medley of songs including timeless classics in multiple
languages, including Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and more, creating a
vibrant atmosphere for everyone.
It was a heartwarming moment that went beyond words and filled our hearts
with immense happiness. It was a day dedicated to spreading joy, and in
return, we received lessons in gratitude, resilience, and the power of
connection.
In addition to our performances, we brought some supplies to donate, hoping
to lighten their everyday challenges.
We were deeply moved by the appreciation we received for our contributions.
It was a beautiful reminder of how important kindness and generosity can be.
Yet, what truly counted was the time and attention we committed to one
another. The bonds we created in those cherished moments will forever hold a
special place in our hearts.
When it was time for us to go home, we hadn't even realized we had spent
more than an hour with them; it felt like only a few minutes had passed. We
waved our goodbyes, wishing we could have spent more time. However,
knowing we brought smiles to their faces, filled our hearts with appreciation.
This day not only brought joy to the residents but also enriched our own lives
as we took with us not just the happiness of the moments we shared, but also
a strong sense of gratitude.
I want to sincerely thank our Principal Sr. Alpana and Mrs. Archana our class
teacher for the opportunity to spend time with the less privileged. This
experience gave us valuable insight into the world outside our comfort zones
and is a day we will always cherish.
