On the 16th of November, the Class of 11 A had the privilege to go to our
outreach programme with our teachers, Miss Minny and Miss Nidhi. We
visited the Alverna Bhavan which included of both- an old age home and an
orphanage.
We first went to the old age home where we received a warm greeting by the
elders living there. Each resident received a small gift as a token of our love
and appreciation. The gifts were carefully selected to meet their needs and
preferences. To spread the festive spirit, we sang Christmas carols together,
creating a cheerful and lively atmosphere.
Some of us also danced with the
residents, and their enthusiasm was truly inspiring. We spent time talking to
the residents, listening to their stories, and sharing some of our own
experiences. It was heartwarming to see their smiles and hear their words of
wisdom. The caretaking sister reminded us to respect our parents and take
care of them as they did for us reminding us of the importance of empathy and
compassion in our daily lives. Adding to the charm of the place were the
animals — rabbits, a playful dog, and ducks — that lived in the old age home.
After bidding goodbye to the old age home, we made our way to the
orphanage. There were about 30 children till the age of 12 whose faces were
filled with curiosity and excitement. Each child received a small gift to brighten
their day and we sang Christmas carols for the children, and they joined in
enthusiastically. The lively atmosphere was filled with music and laughter.
To
our surprise, the children performed a delightful dance for us, showcasing
their talent and creativity. It was a touching moment that left us all impressed.
We were all in awe of the dedication and tireless efforts of the sisters who
manage these homes.
The Outreach was a humbling and rewarding experience for everyone
involved. It provided us an opportunity to connect with the elderly and children,
spreading joy and receiving their warmth in return. We left with hearts full of
love, gratitude and a renewed sense of purpose, promising ourselves to carry
forward the lessons learned and contribute to society in meaningful ways.
