On 23 rd July 2024, ISC students of Sophia High School visited the Yelahanka Air
Force Station. This field trip aimed to deepen our understanding of aviation, the
Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft, and the roles of its personnel.
We received a warm welcome from the station's personnel, who provided an
overview of the base’s significance, its training operations, and the biennial Aero
India show. Our tour included various aircraft, from transport planes to helicopters
and training aircraft, with officers explaining their features and missions.
We also learned about the different jobs at the station, including pilots, technicians,
engineers, and air traffic controllers. Each professional shared insights into their
responsibilities and the rigorous training required.
A museum visit showcased artifacts, picture albums, and aviation equipment used by
the Air Force, with placards from different battalions. The day concluded with a Vote
of Thanks to Air Commodore Rohith Vijaydev, the Officer in Command at Yelahanka.
We extend our gratitude to the Air Force personnel, our accompanying teachers, and
Principal Sr. Alpana for this educational opportunity. The visit was enlightening,
offering a firsthand look into military aviation and inspiring many to consider careers
in this field.
