On 26th January, 2021, at Sophia High School, Bangalore, the 72nd Republic Day Celebrations was held with great austerity keeping the pandemic SOP’s in mind. The participants consisted of the sisters of Notre Dame in the campus and minimal students and staff from the PE department and the Interact Club all with masks maintaining safe distancing rules. After the chief guest Fr. Richard OFM, Capuchin priest , from St. Anthony’s School, Bangalore was welcomed and introduced by Ms. Sneha at 8:00 am, he went on to hoist the Indian national flag. Then the junior choir rendered 2 patriotic songs EE Vatan and Vande Mataram, to set the day’s tone. In his speech, Fr. Richard impressed upon us all about the history and relevance of our constitution which guarantees equal rights. Ms Anitha C, administered the pledge, Ms. Prithvi perked up the occasion as the compare. Ms.Alphonsa spoke about the MFM event. The Interactors shouted out their slogans and chimed in together the title- Move for migrants. Incidentally it was the finale of the Move for Migrants-virtual 4 day event which was held on January 23,24,25 & 26. What began as a social initiative with a circular by the Interact Club for the cause of migrants from its inception way back in October, got a lot of logistical support from the PE Department in data collection in the following months and T-shirt distribution in January. Many school children and some parents logged in with their school mail id to complete the forms made by Ms.Smitha, to register for the event. They would receive a T-shirt and certificate for a nominal amount of Rs.300/-. Around 1200 registrations were made. The evocative logo design by art teacher Diana added appeal to posters and T-shirts. Staff, students and parents uploaded their action pictures online and videos of them were made and released everyday by the Interact club which spread awareness of the cause. The sisters, all in the MFM T-shirts, held a race to symbolically move for the migrants.
Sr.Alpana spoke about the best quality of a student as a citizen and thanked everyone involved in the event. After the national anthem was sung sweets were distributed to everyone’s delight.
