An initiative towards, rural nutrition from fruit bearing trees was an idea of Sophia High School Interact Team and We Plant India. A Seed Bank campaign started in the month of November 2021.
We asked students of our school to deposit seeds in the collection boxes kept in the campus.
Sr. Sreeja SND, Asst Superior General, helped by Sr. Chetana, Provincial Superior, Treasurer Sr. Divya, and our Principals Srs. Alpana, Anjana and Madhuja and Sr. Shiny sowed the first seed in a symbolic way to inaugurate the programme as she blessed the project. We welcomed our Sisters of Notre Dame and Interact students to withdraw the seeds and plant it in rural areas to supplement the nutritious need of rural women in future. The many seeds we had collected had to be planted.
10th December 2021, was the day the seeds would meet the soil. The planting team comprised of 12 Interactors, our teachers – Ms.Alphonsa, Ms.Maria Shushma, Ms.Prithivi, Ms.Anita Saldana, Ms.Nisha & Sr.Athira. Lead by our very own Principal Sr.Alpana.
We headed to a farm in Yelahanka on the outskirts of Bangalore to sow the seeds. Watching the aircraft from the adjacent flying school fly close overhead at low altitude was an unusual treat. After sowing and watering the seeds. We boarded the bus back to school.
We have pledged to return and nurture the plants to fruition. The seeds will sprout and bear fruit someday, just like we at the Interact Club promise to make the world a better place for everyone and everything.
